Beelink, Minisforum, and GEEKOM are the brands we trust. GMKtec is fine if you do not need responsive support. Avoid the no-name brands that flood Amazon listings; we see them on the repair bench.

We see mini PCs every week at our Herndon, VA shop. Customers replacing aging desktops, downsizing from full towers, building home labs, setting up second offices, mounting them behind monitors. The category exploded in 2024-2025 as AMD's Ryzen mobile chips matured and manufacturers competed hard on price. In 2026, the gap between a $700 mini PC and a $1,200 traditional desktop is genuinely narrow for office and home use.
Brand trust matters more in this category than in any other consumer PC category, because the warranty path is the bottleneck. Amazon listings look interchangeable. The differences show up only when something fails 18 months in. Here is what we see.
One note on scope: a higher tier sits above these value picks, namely AMD Strix Halo (Ryzen AI Max+ 395) mini PCs (for example the GMKtec EVO-X2 and Minisforum MS-S1 Max) with up to 128GB of unified memory at roughly $2,000 to $3,300, for buyers who need local LLM or AI-workstation performance. Brand Trust Rankings (Based on What We See Fail)
The hardware in mini PCs is mostly the same: AMD Ryzen mobile chips, Realtek networking, common NVMe controllers, common LPDDR5X or SODIMM RAM. The brands differentiate on three things that matter:
- How fast they ship warranty replacements when something fails
- How long they push BIOS and driver updates
- Whether their customer support actually answers
Tier 1 (we trust, recommend confidently):
- Beelink: best price-to-spec, large product range, support that actually responds. Best in class for the budget and value tiers.
- Minisforum: best for power users. OCuLink ports, internal PCIe expansion, workstation form factors, eGPU compatibility. Slightly higher prices but feature-rich.
- GEEKOM: best build quality and firmware stability. Highest reliability per dollar; consistently strong post-sale support. The "boring works" choice.
Tier 2 (legitimate, but with caveats):
- GMKtec: competitive hardware at budget prices, particularly aggressive on new chip releases. Support is minimal. If you are a tinkerer or know your way around BIOS, fine. If you want hand-holding, skip.
- Trigkey: Beelink's smaller sibling. Solid hardware, similar Beelink supply chain, less aggressive product cadence.
Tier 3 (we have seen issues, proceed carefully):
- AOOSTAR, ACEMAGIC, NiPoGi, KAMRUI, and the long tail of newer Amazon brands: hardware can be fine, but support is unreliable, BIOS updates rare, and warranty fulfillment slow when it works at all. If the price gap vs. a Beelink or GEEKOM is under $100, pay the extra and get a trustworthy brand.
Buying for a business or a regulated industry? Read this first.
The value picks on this page keep their prices low by selling direct to the customer. Beelink and Minisforum build good hardware for the money, which is exactly why we recommend them to home and hobby buyers. Their manufacturers are based in China, and after-sale support runs through a mail-in RMA process rather than a US service counter, so two things matter more when a machine has to keep a business running:
- The support and warranty chain. When one of these units fails, support runs through a mail-in RMA process, and depending on the brand the unit may ship to a US return center or overseas, usually at your own expense. For a home PC that is an annoyance. For a machine your staff depend on, that kind of downtime is a real cost.
- Hardware provenance and supply-chain assurance. Regulated fields, healthcare, finance, legal, and government contracting, increasingly ask where hardware comes from and who stands behind it. A direct-import brand is harder to account for than a vendor with a US warranty and a documented supply chain. This is a procurement and business-continuity question, not a claim about any one brand.

The Beelink SER9 Pro is the mini PC we point most customers at for daily-driver home office and family-room use. AMD Ryzen 7 H255 (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.9GHz), Radeon 780M integrated graphics, 24GB of LPDDR5X 6400 RAM, 1TB NVMe Gen4 SSD. Built-in microphone and speakers, USB4, WiFi 6, 2.5Gb Ethernet, triple 4K display support.
What we like: Strong CPU performance for productivity, Radeon 780M handles 1080p gaming at medium settings in most modern titles, the built-in speakers and mic make video calls work without dongles, dual M.2 slots mean you can add a second SSD later. Beelink's warranty service is one of the best in the mini PC space.
What to watch: RAM is soldered LPDDR5X, so 24GB is the lifetime ceiling for this unit. 24GB of soldered memory is plenty for office and home use even though 32GB is the sweet spot we point most buyers toward, so do not let the slightly lower number scare you off. Fine for office and casual use; constraining if you plan to grow into virtualization or local LLM work.
Best Performance: Beelink SER9 AI HX 370
The SER9 AI is Beelink's flagship. AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12 cores, 24 threads, up to 5.1GHz) with the Radeon 890M integrated GPU and an XDNA NPU rated up to 50 TOPS for AI workloads. 32GB LPDDR5X, 1TB NVMe Gen4. USB4, WiFi 6, 2.5Gb Ethernet, triple 4K display.
What we like: The Radeon 890M is the strongest integrated GPU in mainstream 2026 mini PCs (only the far pricier Strix Halo tier noted above beats it), comfortably beating the previous 780M for 1080p gaming and handling many 1440p titles at medium settings. The XDNA NPU enables local AI workloads (Stable Diffusion, small LLMs) without an external GPU. 32GB of fast RAM is enough headroom for serious multitasking.
What to watch: Priced at a premium versus the SER9 Pro. If you are not actually going to use the AI features or 1440p iGPU gaming, the regular SER9 Pro is the better value. RAM is soldered (32GB ceiling).
If you want eGPU headroom plus upgradeable RAM on the same HX 370 chip, the Minisforum AI X1 Pro-370 (OCuLink, dual USB4, WiFi 7, SODIMM DDR5) is a feature-rich alternative.
Best Slim Office PC: Minisforum UM870 Slim
If you want the smallest practical footprint without giving up productivity, the Minisforum UM870 Slim is our pick. Ryzen 7 8745H (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.9GHz, 65W performance mode), 32GB DDR5 (SODIMM slots, upgradeable to 96GB), 1TB NVMe Gen4, USB4, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 for triple 4K display, 2.5Gb Ethernet, WiFi 6E.
What we like: Truly compact form factor for behind-monitor mounting, SODIMM RAM that you can grow to 96GB years from now, two M.2 slots for storage expansion, triple-display support that just works. Minisforum's BIOS is among the most stable in this category.
What to watch: The Ryzen 7 8745H is a slightly older chip than the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, with no NPU acceleration for Copilot+ features. If on-device AI matters, look at the SER9 AI above.
Best for Workstation / eGPU: Minisforum UM880 Plus
The UM880 Plus is what we recommend when a mini PC needs to grow into more. Ryzen 7 8845HS (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.1GHz), 32GB DDR5 (SODIMM, upgradeable), 1TB NVMe Gen4, and crucially: an OCuLink port for connecting an external GPU dock. That turns this from "compact desktop" into "compact desktop that becomes a real gaming PC with one cable."
What we like: OCuLink eGPU support is the killer feature here. PCIe 4.0 x4 over OCuLink is faster than Thunderbolt eGPU connections, with much lower latency. The chassis includes a five USB-port spread, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, and a 2.5Gb Ethernet port. RAM and storage are both upgradeable.
What to watch: The eGPU itself is a separate purchase (typically $200-400 for the dock, plus the GPU). If you do not plan to add a discrete GPU, the simpler UM870 Slim above is the better fit.
What to Look For in a 2026 Mini PC
CPU generation matters more than core count. A 2024-2026 AMD Ryzen 7 or AI 9 with Zen 4 or Zen 5 cores will out-feel an older Ryzen 9 or i9 from 2022. The mobile Ryzen chips with the "H" suffix (H255, 8745H, 8845HS, HX 370) deliver desktop-class performance with mini PC thermals.
Integrated GPU class is the gaming ceiling. Radeon 780M is the current baseline; comfortable 1080p medium settings in modern AAA. Radeon 890M (paired with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370) is the top of the mainstream tier, handling some 1440p medium gaming. Intel Arc graphics on mini PCs lag both. If you want serious gaming, plan to add an OCuLink eGPU or buy a full desktop.
32GB RAM is the sweet spot. 16GB is the floor; modern Windows with browser tabs and video calls fills 16GB quickly. 32GB is comfortable. Above 32GB matters for virtualization, local AI, or content creation workloads.
1TB NVMe minimum. 500GB is too small in 2026. 1TB is the new minimum; 2TB is preferable if budget allows or if you plan to keep the machine 4+ years.
Soldered vs SODIMM RAM is a real trade-off. Soldered LPDDR5X is faster and lower-power, which helps battery-free thermal performance, but limits future upgrades. SODIMM is slower but lets you grow to 64GB or 96GB years from now. Pick based on whether you plan to upgrade.
USB4 and Thunderbolt matter. USB4 (or Thunderbolt 4 where present) enables eGPU connections, fast external storage, and high-resolution display passthrough. Every pick here has USB4. OCuLink is even better for eGPU, but rarer.
Complete the build
A mini PC is just the box. Unless you are reusing a monitor and peripherals, you will need a screen, keyboard, and mouse to go with it. These are the ones we recommend, and ordering them in the same Amazon session means they show up together.

Are mini PCs as fast as full-size desktops?
For everyday tasks, productivity, and most gaming up to 1080p, modern mini PCs are competitive with full-size mid-range desktops. Where they fall short: discrete GPU performance (mainstream mini PCs use integrated graphics; AMD's Radeon 890M lands around GTX 1650 class, and even the premium Strix Halo tier's Radeon 8060S only reaches laptop RTX 4060 territory). For serious 1440p or 4K gaming, you still want a full tower with a dedicated GPU.
Are Beelink, Minisforum, GEEKOM, and GMKtec safe brands to buy?
Yes, with caveats. Beelink, Minisforum, and GEEKOM have been in the market long enough to have established support, fulfill warranties, and consistently produce reliable hardware. GMKtec is legitimate but with thinner support. AOOSTAR, ACEMAGIC, and other newer-to-Amazon brands are higher-risk: their hardware can be fine, but warranty service and driver updates are inconsistent.
Can I upgrade RAM and storage in a mini PC?
Mostly. Storage upgrades (M.2 NVMe) are usually easy and most current mini PCs have two M.2 slots. RAM depends on the model: SODIMM-based mini PCs allow standard RAM upgrades to 64GB or 96GB; soldered-LPDDR5X models (like the Beelink SER9 Pro) cannot be upgraded later. Check the spec sheet before buying if upgradeability matters.
Did Minisforum have a capacitor recall?
